We offer a donations service in which people can send a donation for a charitable cause to us in memory of a person who has died. We then record the donation, and provided that they have included an address, we send them a receipt. We also have the facility to accept donations from a credit card in both our offices and over the telephone.
At the time of the service we provide locked donations boxes in which a donation may be placed. After approximately eight weeks, we total the donations up and inform the deceased’s next of kin of the total amount raised. It is our policy not to inform them of individual amounts so that the donor can be assured that their gift is private. Then we send the donations to the charity/charities concerned and we ask the charity to acknowledge receipt of the donation to the next of kin as well as ourselves.
By sending the donations via ourselves, the families are able to have a listing of those who have sent, provided that we have a name. Sometimes families wish to split the donation between a number of charities, and so the donations are then paid into our donation account and then this is split between the charities in equal amounts.
